Does it ever get better? ~ Coasting through December 12....

Hey everyone! I'm still trying to get caught up before I start losing track of days ~ That is very easy to do here.

Here is how Monday played out here while waiting to move on:
Freezing cold morning and a walk to the Green Beans for some coffee. It is too early for the local merchants store to be open, so we can't do any browsing or shopping. Anyway, we had some time to kill so I thought I would show Nick what Geocaching is. Now, if you have no idea what Geocaching is, or have just never done it before, you are totally missing out.... And if you have kids you are totally insane to not be out with the family Geocaching!! Check out the official website Geocaching.com  (just click on the link) ~ It cost nothing to join, but you will need a GPSr to get started, and even some smart phones have apps for playing. It doesn't have to be an expensive GPSr - Even MalWart has one for about sixty bones - Check out the Garmin E Trex. You are going to see many references to me Geocaching in this blog due to the fact that it makes traveling so much more fun and adventurous.
So anyway Nick and I did set out and succeeded in finding a very small Geocache here on base.... We signed the log and we were on our way. Here is the link to the Cache that we found ~ Ready, Set, Go!
It was a super slow morning, and eventually we decided to go to lunch. I discovered these cool rocks outside  of the Chow Hall. Apparently different people paint them and place them here ~ Kind of cool! I spotted Oregon right off, and I decided to take a few pictures.

Finally in the afternoon the local merchant here opened up shop, so we got to do some browsing and make a few purchases. I figured I would let you all get a gander at some of the gems you see in many gem shops throughout the Country. You can see multitudes of raw Emeralds and Rubies, and many other cut and polished stones... Some of the polished stuff is synthetic, so you really need to know what to look for. The raw material is obviously the real deal ~ true Earth mined gems.

Well, other than several trips to the flight line to check on outgoing flights this pretty much sums up the day! Keep coming back as I will soon take you out of Afghanistan and on to Kuwait.
Thanks for following me on this adventure ~ Stay positive!  ~ Leo
