Hello everybody were back again coming to you live from Bangkok.
So I'd like to tell you that I did something exciting today, but it was just another one of those days.
By the time I got moving today and got myself out of the hotel it was just getting to be about lunchtime, so the crowds were pretty heavy. I thought I would try and make it to the floating market today, but things this did not work out the way I planned. I headed out walking toward Starbucks for some coffee, but when I got there I decided that instead I would buy my coffee from a local vendor, so I set out walking down the road in search of coffee.
Mission accomplished!
With coffee in hand I headed out looking for a
Tuk-Tuk driver. For those of you who don't know what a
Tuk-Tuk is, it is a three wheeled motorcycle type of taxi. If you click on the link you can get more information there. After quite a bit of walking I finally found a
Tuk-Tuk, talked to the driver and climbed aboard. Now the problem here in Bangkok is that the drivers get paid by the tailor shops to bring in tourists for a hard sell on clothing. Myself being aware of this I told my driver I did not want to go to a tailor, and that I would pay him to not take me there. I told him that I just wanted to go see the floating market and didn't want to deal with the tailor shops. He kept wanting me to go to just one tailor, and when I told him no he decided to pass me off on another driver. At this point I just gave him twenty baht which is the equivalent of about eighty cents and told him never mind. So, at this point I decided to just do some walking around and do pretty much nothing.
Along my walk back to the hotel I came along a little Vietnamese vendor where I decided to make a purchase of a very cool opium pipe. From there it was off to the hotel to just kick back and relax.

The lunchtime crowds. |
More crowds. |
This is not the greatest picture, but across the street it is all food ~ very crowded. |
The coffee vendor I found along the way ~These street vendors can really whip up a great cup of coffee. |
That is eighty cents opposed to the five dollars I would have spent at Starbucks ~ And it taste better too! |
Ended up at one of the many canals and watched a few of the water taxis go by. By the looks of this thing I would say it's a water bus! |
These things operate pretty much just like a bus only they are on the water ~ They will pick you up at stops along the canal and you can ride it down the canal to whatever stop you need to get off at. |
Looking down the pathway along the canal. |
There seems to be a lot of dogs along the canal walkway ~ At least they all seem friendly. |
A face only a mother could love. |
Across the canal they were in the works of making a new temple. If you look closely you can see the guys working on the roof. |
I do believe the little building there with the gold trim on it is a crematorium ~ If you look closely you can see where the smoke comes out the top center. |
There's the dogs again ~ these ones did not want to move so the girl could get by, but she finally worked her way around them. There was supposed to be a geocache at the bottom of the steps, but it seems to have disappeared. |
Just an abstract picture I took of one of the buildings. |
Time to pick up some lunch. |
Just a picture of what's available from one of the food vendors. |
And more... |
That my friend is a Tuk-Tuk. |
A picture I took from the back of the Tuk-Tuk ~ That was the driver who was trying to scam me. |
This is the Vietnamese vendor I found along my way back to the hotel. |
This guy has loads of cool stuff for sale! |
Another shot of his cart. |
He wanted to take a picture of me with his cart, but it ended up being more of a close-up. |
There was really some unbelievable craftsmanship. |
Elephants and Buddhas |
One more picture for the road. |
A picture of the opium pipe I bought from him. |
This thing has some excellent detail, and I just love the Dragon!! It actually looks like ivory but he told me it was pig bone. |
Finally back to the hotel to eat my lunch ~ Spicy green papaya salad. |
You end up seeing some of the strangest things loaded on trucks around here... Or should I say overloaded? |
Hey look it's the hospital... Decided to go visit my friend again for a little while. |
Food vendor outside the hospital |
These little tiny oranges are the best oranges I have ever had!! |
More sunflower seeds ~ These things are great! |
I ended up going into a 7-Eleven outside of the hospital, and it was the biggest 7-Eleven I had ever seen.... It had a bakery, a pharmacy, a coffee shop, and everything else a normal 7-Eleven has. The green tea smoothie was all of about fifty cents ~ What a deal! I did end up going out walking around and checking out some of the nightlife for a few minutes, grabbed a burger from this cool little burger shack, and headed back to my hotel to get some sleep. So that is pretty much it for my day... I know boring ~ boring ~ boring!! I did have a few other pictures, but they're on my iPhone and I hadn't taken time to move them onto the computer. So today's blog was done mostly with my voice recognition software instead of typing... I wanted to get a feel of how this program works, and I like it. I am actually very impressed with the program ~ it seems to work great!! I did have to fix a few things, but my typing ended up being very limited.... That is a bonus! Thanks again for being here and following me on my adventures, and I will see you all again here tomorrow. Have a Great Positive Day!! Leo |
