Friday, January 20.... Here comes the weekend!

Hello all my loyal blog followers!!
Here we are at Friday already... Only a couple of days left here at the park for me.
This day was a little bit different for me today as I decided to go work with the rescue dogs that are here due to the Bangkok floods. This job was for the most part just helping a little to clean the kennels, and then it was finding dogs that wanted to get out for a walk. The conditions in the kennels are really not that bad considering that they took this project on unexpectedly. One thing that is certain is that everything is cleaned regularly, and everyone gets fed well. The trick is more food dishes than dogs ~ this helps to curb the fighting that normally takes place with this many dogs being together. They are in the process of building nice kennels, but all of these things take time, and there are many projects here at the park. When you spend time with these dogs that are here you quickly realize that many of them were somebody's house dog, and are not used to being around so many other dogs. They are scared, want some love, and just want to go home and away from the other dogs. Others are just fine in this situation since many Thai dogs are used to running around with other dogs.

Morning Exercise

Temporary kennels across the road.

Waiting for some attention.

Go For A Walk!!

Some are just happy staying away from the crowd.

Cleaning

Waiting for a chance to get out... Some dogs have never been on leashes before coming here, so it can be a challenge trying to get their cooperation.

Out on a little walk.

I absolutely love this little puppy!! It is marked like a Rotti, but I believe it is an Australian Shepard. Someone paid good money for this dog ~ It isn't just one of the typical Mutt dogs you see here. He is so full of energy, and escapes almost every time the door opens ~ He is pretty easy to catch again though. I would love to bring this guy back to the States with me!

This adorable little guy just didn't want to go back with all the rest of the other dogs. I ended up feeding him outside the kennel and gave him some extra love since he was very scared.

Lisa with one of the dogs she walked this morning.

Myself holding the scared little dog.

Done at the kennel and waiting for lunch.... I had some visitors nearby.

They are always looking for some lunch too!!

The trunk is just amazing!!

Psssssst.... Hey!! You got a banana or something???

Jungle Boy on a bit of a rampage!

Running around bothering everyone.  Once his Mahout climbed onto his head everything was good.

For the afternoon activity today I chose to go out the the Elephant medic area and participate in the Vet program. This program allows us to see first hand what is involved in taking care of some of the injured Elephants here at the park.

Headed out to the clinic.

Some Elephants out in the distance playing in the mud pit.

The injured Elephants know to come in and stand in the chemically treated water and eat their snacks. The chemicals will clean their feet prior to being treated for their injuries.

Giving her a little love during a painful treatment on her feet.

Cat comforting the big girl.

Cleaning and treating some infection.

Antibiotic treatments

She has problems on three of her feet.

Just like a child at the doctor ~ The Elephant gets treats for being good.... Elephant Lollipop!

More Treats!

This is great ~ Filling the trunk up with a garden hose. Some of the Elephants know how to turn the hose on, and they will pick it up and put it in their mouth.

The Elephant on the right has a broken hip caused by forced breeding. Her name is Meadow, and she will never have to worry about the forced breeding project again.

After the Vet program I walked over to see if I could see the Bear and get some better pictures.

He decided to come down and get some bananas.

Very cool Bear ~ I was told that he will back up to the gate and let you scratch his back sometimes.... I didn't get that lucky today.

A little Monkey that was rescued ~ They are in the process of  building some big Monkey cages right now, and I think they plan on doing some more Monkey rescues.

Dinner Time ~ It is a bad picture, but it gives you an idea of the food line that happens here twice a day. These folks can do wonders with some Tofu, and I have never been a big fan of Tofu. I will definitely have some extra weight to lose after this week I have spent  at the ENP.

More Food
There it is ~ My Friday here at the Elephant Nature Park has come to a close once again. Time for some Blog work, shower, and then off to sleep.
I hope you are all still enjoying my adventure.
Thanks for being here with me and Have a Great Positive Day!!
